He was born to Cecil and Ova Jernigan Julian. Cecil and Ova are buried in the Cookeville City Cemetary. He was in the U.S. Navy during the Korean war. In the early 1960s he was in a vehicular accident that left him partially disabled. He has two brothers Thurman and Lonnie Julian and sisters (Joyce and Shirley). His widow is Beulah Beatrice Baird Julian. She is the mother of his children. He had 2 sons Gary and Bobby and 2 daughters Connie and Shelia. His son Gary died of a heart attack in April 2007 and is buried at Smellage cemetary. Herman's cause of death was a heart attack as well.
