Springerville--Rites for Mrs. Celia Elizabeth (Banny) Peery, 91, who was brought here 90 years ago from her native Farmington, Utah, will be at 10 a.m., Saturday in the Presbyterian Church here. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. on a ranch on the Blue River.

Mrs. Peery, who died Tuesday in Springerville Community Hospital, was the eldest of 10 children of Spencer and Annie Burke Allen. [NOTE: This is incorrect. Her parents were Allen Spencer Burk & Annie Elizabeth Miles.] She was reared in Springerville and Alpine.

In her teens and early 20s, she worked in the old Saffel Hotel, the only one in Springerville at the time. She and her husband, Claire Peery, a Texas cowboy whom she married in 1903, homesteaded a ranch on the Blue River in 1907 and had a summer range at Campbell Blue in the White Mountains south of Alpine.

After her husband died in 1928 during a cattle drive, Mrs Peery operated a boarding house in Springerville on the present location of the Ramada Inn. Some of her boarders were high school students from nearby ranches.

Mrs. Peery moved to 3106 W. Cypress, Phoenix, in 1948, and suffered a slight stroke a year ago. She then made her home in Nutrioso with a granddaughter, Catherine Brown Hinton.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Claire Myers of Phoenix and Mrs. Hettie Brown of Marana; nine grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
