Peter Francis "Pete" Ballard, 84, New Haven, formerly of Richmond, Ind., died Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Holy Cross, a retired employee of Peoples Bank, Richmond. Ind., a U.S. Navy veteran, and a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion, both on Richmond. He was a member of Immaculate Conception, Catholic Church, New Haven.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Medley Ballard; a son, Ben Allen Ballard; a grandson; a stepgrandson; his parents, Robert and Emma Medley Ballard; a sister, Cornelious Mattingly; four brothers, Jude Ballard, Jerome Ballard, Em Ballard and Tony Ballard.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Lou Metcalfe Ball Ballard; two daughters, Joyce Blanton, Lawrenceburg, Ind., and Jean Toschlog, Centerville, Ind.; a son, James Ballard, Harrisonburg, Va.; two stepdaughters, Jan Ballard and Brenda Cecil, both of New Haven; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Rose Wilson, Detroit, Mary Ann Peake, Lebanon; and a brother, Firmin Ballard, Macedonia, Ohio.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Haven, with burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Richmond, Ind. The Rev. mark Hamilton will officiate.

Visitation is after 2 p.m. Wednesday at Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home, New Haven.
