Mr. Berry was a WWII combat veteran, and served with the 45th Division of the 157th Infantry. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in Southern France. He was also awarded the Army Good Conduct medal, the World War II Victory medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal. After the war he was elected to two terms as Sheriff of Winston County, Alabama serving from 1955 to 1963. He later became the Police Chief of Double Springs, Alabama.
