The funeral for Ruth Minter Gibbs Boswell, 88, of 1345 Reed Creek Drive, Bassett, who died Jan. 14, 2004, at the Stanleytown Health Care Center, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fort Trial Christian Church. Minister Marshall McCrickard will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at Fort Trial Christian Church from 6:30-8 p.m. today.
She was born Jan. 8, 1916, in White Oak, N.C., to L. Moses Minter and Maggie Kasey Minter, both deceased. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert A. Boswell, who died March 13, 1997; a sister, Adna M. Thomasson; and four brothers, Luther W. Minter, Willard Clifford Minter, George Blanton Minter and William B. Minter.
The last surviving charter member of Fort Trial Christian Church, she had served in a number of capacities in the church, including serving on the church board, teaching Sunday school and as a member of the Christian Women?s Fellowship.
Surviving are three daughters, Madeline G. Philpott of Mooresville, N.C., Judy B. Seidle of Stanleytown and Gale B. Burgess of Midlothian; four sons, F. Douglas Gibbs of Bassett, Bobby G. Gibbs of Danville, Kenneth E. Gibbs of Bassett and Jack R. Gibbs of Ridgeway; five sisters, Foster M. Harris of Collinsville, Betty M. Scott of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., and Thelma M. Durham, Joann M. Jarrett and Carol M. Koger, all of Bassett; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
