Harry A. "Hap" Fowler, 82, former Vermillion police chief and water department superintendent, died Thursday, January 13, 1972 at Dakota Hospital after a long illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Fowler were at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Wagner-Iverson Funeral Home. The Rev. John W. Davey, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated. Burial was in Bluff View Cemetery.
Mr. Fowler was born Aug. 21, 1889, at Salix, Iowa. He married Myrtle Chaussee June 10, 1909, here in Vermillion.
A life-long Vermillion resident, Mr. Fowler retired as the superintendent of the water department in 1960. He had held that position for many years and prior to that was police chief for 18 years.
Survivors include the widow, a daughter, Mrs. Maurice (Helen) Rawlings of Sioux City; five grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Kristine Jorgenson was organist and Nate Horowitz was vocalist. Selections were "In the Garden" and "Bless This House."
Casket bearers were J. P. Jones, Oliver Washburn, Howard Anderson, Harvey Huber, Junior Iverson and Melvin Stiegelmeyer.
