Letha G. Hammond-Whitis, 90, of Yakima, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 1996 in her home. She was born on February 8, 1906 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma to Flake and Susie (Cash) Hammond. She married James J. Whitis in Oklahoma in 1925. The couple moved to Toppenish, Washington in 1945 where they owned and operated the Reservation Market until retiring in 1959. They made their home in Toppenish until moving to Mabton, Washington in 1965. Following the death of her husband in 1968, Letha continued to reside in Mabton until moving to Yakima, Washington in 1979. She enjoyed sewing, dancing and visiting with friends.

Letha is survived by her beloved son, Jim Whitis and his wife, Rosalind; two granddaughters, Kiki Whitis-Carlsen and her husband, Chris; and Stacey Whitis (future husband David Jukes of Australia); sister-in-law, Opal Hammond of Cheyenne, OK and one nephew, Lloyd Hammond of Reydon, OK. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Al Hammond. Funeral Services were held on March 18, 1996 at 11:00 A.M. in the Keith & Keith 9th Avenue Chapel in Yakima.

Graveside services followed in the Zillah Cemetery at 1:30 P.M. in Zillah, Washington.
