Diane Patricia Muhl-Ludes,
49, of St. Petersburg, died Saturday, July 4, 2009, in her husband's arms, at Hospice House Woodside, after her courageous four round battle with cancer. Born in Baltimore, MD, she came here in 1993 from the Outer Banks of North Carolina. She graduated from University of Tampa with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. During her career in nursing, she worked for several hospitals both locally and in North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland. She was the recipient of numerous awards and commendations for courage above and beyond the call of duty. She was recognized by former President George W. Bush for Nursing Spectrum's, National Nurse Hero 2002. She also received the Hometown Hero award from John Walsh on the John Walsh Show in 2002. She was the recipient of the courage award from Tampa's Mayor Pam Iorio in 2004. She attended the Shenandoah Conservatory where she studied music and has spent the last five years as a piano teacher. She was Roman Catholic and a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by father, Howard L. Muhl, Jr. She is survived by husband, Scott A. Ludes, of St. Petersburg, FL; two sons: Jeremy A. Ludes and Joshua T. Ludes, both of St. Petersburg, FL; her mother, T. Agnes Muhl, of Catonsville, MD; three brothers: Howard Muhl III of Catonsville, MD, T. Brian Muhl of Thurmont, MD, and Robert Muhl of Sykesville, MD; two sisters: Teresa Rowles of Baltimore, MD and Debra Herdecker of New Market, MD; two grandsons: Kyrin Stephan Ludes and Tyler Alan Ludes, both of St. Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Faces of Courage, 4115 West Spruce Street, Tampa, FL 33607.
