Betty Louise Chubb Martin, 84, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on August 28, 1924 in Topeka, the daughter of Rollin and Julia Dent Chubb.

She graduated from Topeka High School in 1942 where she was homecoming queen. Betty obtained a Bachelor Of Arts Degree in Sociology from Washburn University in 1946. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, a life-time member of the Washburn University Alumni Association, the Junior League of Topeka, the Shawnee County Historical Society and the KU Alumni Association.

Betty was a 73 year member of the First United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader, gardener, bird watcher and a loyal fan of KU athletics.

Betty married William W. Bill Martin on December 20, 1947 in Topeka. She was a supportive partner to Bill during his 40 years leading Martin Tractor Company. He preceded her in death on September 4, 1991.

Survivors include her children, Greg Jennings Martin, Janet Martin McKinney and her husband, Kent, Judy Martin Knoll and her husband, Dick and Joyce Hudson Martin, five grandchildren, Crystal and Scott Martin, Kelley and Ross McKinney and Spencer Knoll, seven great-grandchildren and her first cousin, Linda Schreiner.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 21st in the sanctuary at First United Methodist Church.

Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Betty will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30 8:00 p.m.
