~ Vernon Ashby Obituary ~

Longtime area resident Vernon Charles Ashby, 91, passed away Dec. 12, 2008, at the Hospice Care Center.

He was born Nov. 9, 1917, in Castle Rock, to Arthur G. and Ruby L. (Little) Ashby. He graduated from Kelso High School in 1937.

On Oct. 5, 1940, he married Vera Mae Urie. She survives him at home after 68 years of marriage.

Vernon worked for Weyerhaeuser for 38 years, retiring in 1979. He enjoyed fishing, clam digging, spending time at the beach and traveling. He loved watching his grandkids and great-grandkids play baseball.

In addition to his wife Vera, he is survived by a daughter, Linda Grizzle, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Howard Ashby in 1994; and a brother, Earl Ashby.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park. Interment will follow at Longview Memorial Park.
