He was known in the family as "Fred"

In 1911, he is listed as a member of The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, as follows: "FREDERICK WALTER COBB, Newton Upper Falls, Mass. (23841). Great- grandson of Ebenezer Cobb, Jr., private, Col. Ebenezer Sprout's Mass. Regt.;
great'-grandson of Ebenezer Cobb, Sergeant First Middleboro Company Mass. Minute Men."

In 1914, Frederick Cobb's residence was at 49 Rockland Place, Newton Upper Falls, Mass.

After the early death of his wife Florence C. Nicholson of Massachusetts, who he married about 1901, Fred remarried on Jan. 15, 1920, Alice Catherine Beatle, born in Iowa Dec. 17, 1878. Alice was the daughter of David Beatle (1844-1927) and Barbara Allen (1853-1935).

Fred had no children by either of his wives.

The following was published in the book, "The Makers of the Mold":

"Newton, Nov.. 14 (1914) - What proved the worst fire with which the department here has had to battle in recent years started today at noon in the factory of the Leather Tire Goods Company and the Acme Broom Works at Newton Upper Falls, entailing a loss estimated at $45,000. ----- Some idea of the fierceness of the wind may be gained by the fact that sparks and embers were blown to the premises of Fred W. Cobb, 49 Rockland Place, fully a third of a mile away from the mill. Mr. Cobb's dwelling was not damaged, but a henhouse on the premises caught fire and burned flat. Mr. Cobb is a son of Darius Cobb, the well-known artist."
--------------------------------------
Fred and his second wife Alice lived on a large property in Los Gatos, California, and I (Stan Myers) remember my mother and grandmother (Edith (Cobb) Myers taking me and my brother Stephen to visit Uncle Fred and Aunt Alice at what we called "their farm". This would have been in the early 1940's when Uncle Fred was in his 70's. We loved seeing his Peacock display its tail feathers, and were amazed at the large size of the Peahen eggs. We were living in Palo Alto, California at that time.

Fred took a very active part in helping to settle the estate of his parents, Darius and Laura after their deaths in 1919.

THANK YOU so very much for taking the time to post such a wonderful memorial for Fred. I was quite happily surprised to find him listed; the biographical information and a photo were such a great bonus!

Fred's wife, Alice Beatle, was my great-great-grandmother's sister. It was so nice to read a 1st hand account of someone we have talked about so often in our family. Do you by any chance have any other information about Alice or possibly (dare I hope) a picture of her? I have that she died in Jasper County, Missouri in 1972 but have no other information regarding what happened to her.

Thank you again for your contribution!!!
