WEBER MOORE, 84

BARTOW - LaVonne (Bonnie) Jean Weber Moore, 84, former Director of Nursing at Polk General Hospital has passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was at home surrounded by family and loved ones as she entered eternal life July 17, 2009.
She was born on November 04, 1924 in North English, Iowa. Her early education was at North English Elementary, Middle and High School, where she graduated in 1942. She then attended Mercy Hospital of Nursing in Cedar Rapids Iowa and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1945. Upon graduation she entered the Army Cadet Nurses and was stationed at Winter General Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.
Lavonne relocated after the war to Winter Haven, Florida. She worked in both the medical community in Winter Haven and in 1948 also as a Strawberry Nurse for Polk County. Through mutual friends she was introduced to Henry Cecil Moore. They were married in Winter Haven on June 17, 1948; they have just celebrated their 61th wedding anniversary.
Lavonne is preceded in death by her mother and father, Dade and Henry Weber and three brothers, Donald, Gerald, and Keith. LaVonne and Cecil have three children: Michael Moore M.D. (Belinda) of Orlando, Florida, Michele Moore-Connelly, MSN-ED, ARNP of Winter Haven, Florida, and Marilynn Schoneman, RN (Ralph)of Tucson, Arizona. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Kevin Moore Schoneman and John Michael Moore.
She was also quite active in Polk County being a member of the Garden Club, Junior Women's Club of Bartow, Pilot Club (President), American Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. She supported her husband on the many Polk County projects he pioneered as mayor of Bartow. Professionally she was active in Polk County Nursing activities and a past member of the American and Florida Nursing Association, and the Nursing Service Administrators of America. She believed in providing quality nursing care to all Americans. LaVonne was instrumental in promoting progress and growth of Lakeland Regional Hospital and the development of what became Polk State College. The Moore's were long time members of the First United Methodist Church of Bartow, Florida.
She will be substantially missed by her husband, children, family and friends. They take comfort in the fact of knowing that she lived and that she has passed on the Lord.
A visitation will be held Tuesday 07/21/2009 from 6-8pm at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow. Funeral Services will follow on Wednesday at 11am at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Bartow Wildwood cemetery.
The family is extremely grateful for all the warm wishes, prayers, wonderful dishes, flowers and offers of assistance.
