She was the daughter of John Kolaski and Bronislawa "Bertha" Albercenska, both immigrants from Poland.

Sally's first marriage, in about 1933, was to Henry Alexander Raub. They were divorced.

She was always known by the name "Sally", and worked hard as a single mother to support and raise her two daughters, Virginia and Dorothy, after her first husband, Henry Raub, left home about 1937.

During World War II, Sally worked for John A. Roebling & Sons in Trenton, running wire winding machinery. Her first social security card was issued on Dec 21, 1936. In 1946, she became licensed by the State of N.J. as an "Operator of Beauty Culture", and she worked as a beautician/hairdresser in Princeton, N.J. until 1955 when she married Raymond E. Tierney who was attached to the Submarine Service in the U.S. Navy.

Sally, as a "navy wife", moved often to different parts of the country as dictated by her husband's assignments and began raising her second family (sons Joe & Michael) in her 40's. She often had to handle matters by herself when Ray was away on duty assignments, particularly those of 3 months duration when he was at sea on the USS Ethan Allen, a nuclear ballistic missile submarine. She was able to once take a short cruise on one of these nuclear submarines.

Sally enjoyed gardening and fishing; and was meticulous about keeping an orderly, neat and clean home. She was 5'-2" tall, weighed approx 130 lb, had blue eyes and brown hair.
