Family Data Collection: Andrew Jackson Garst is my great grandfather. He was married to Harriet Fredonia Lynn of McLean County, Ky 13 Sept 1865 in McLean County, KY. Harriet Fredonia Lynn Garst was born 3 May 1843 in McLean Co. to Andrew Lynn and Harriet Fredonia Pitt Lynn. Harriet Fredonia Lynn Garst died in Altamont, Labette County, Kansas on 26 January 1917 in her home. The Missouri death certificate for Harriet Garst for July 5, 1911 is not Andrew Jackson Garst's wife. Harriet Garst is buried by her husband in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont, Labette County, KS.

Andrew and Harriet had 2 children, Charles P Garst and Lena Garst. You have documented Charles P. Garst. My grandmother was Lena Garst born 3 August 1868 in McLean County, KY. She died 16 December 1906 at the home of her parents in Altamont, KS. She married 3 Jan 1886 Thomas Newton Todd in Altamont, Labette, Kansas. They were the parents of three sons Jessie Andrew Todd b. May 1888, Clarence Whitcomb Todd, b. 1890 and Earl Thomas (Everett) Todd b. 1895. Earl was my father. Jessee is buried in Coffeyville, Ks. and is listed in the "Find a grave site" Clarence and wife and my parents are buried in Memorial Lawn cemetery in Parson, Lb, Kansas. My father was raised by Andrew and Harriet after Lena's death.

Andrew Jackson Garst in the Civil War was in the Kentucky Cavalry G & F, 12th. Became a Sergent. He Wounded in the leg and was discharged in April, 1863, by reason of physical disability.

A. J. GARST, was shown as a dealer in dry goods and groceries, came to Kansas in March, 1872, On October 14, 1884, the first election was held, and the following councilmen: Altamont, A. J. Garst. He was appointed Postmasters Oct. 21, 1885 Altamont. On Sept 16, 1889 he file for pension in Kansas for his wound in the Civil War.

Andrew Jackson Garst son Charles Phillip Garst was born Sept 9, 1873 in Cloud Co., KS and died Aug 20, 1904 in Camp Marawi, Philippine Islands from typhoid fever. He was in C 20 U.S. Inf; D 22 U.S. Inf; L 21 Kansas Inf
