Ed Kennaday Died Saturday, Victim of Heart Failure

Family members and friends here were shocked Saturday when they learned that Ed Kennaday 56, had died suddenly about 5:30 that morning while at work at the Nixon Herford Ranch a few miles west of Saratoga. He suffered a heart attack, and passed away within a few moments.

Mr. Kennaday, who had been employed at the ranch for some time, had accompanied Frank Nixon to Rawlins on Friday, where they attended the Valley Association bull sale. Saturday morning Mr. Kennaday remarked that he had not slept well and said he was not feeling too well, but started out to do his usual work. A short time later he was stricken, and was carried into the house where he expired a few moments later.

Ed Kennaday had spent his entire life in the Platte Valley. He was born October 9, 1895, on a ranch on Cedar creek, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Kennaday. He attended valley schools, and growing to manhood, he learned the ranching business, which he followed all through his life. His ability with cattle was well known and during the years he had been employed from time to time by most of the prominent ranching man in the Saratoga Valley. More recently he had been employed at the Lawrence Needham Ranch on Spring Creek, and when that ranch was sold some months ago he transferred to Nixon Herford's, where he had worked since.

Mr. Kennaday was married to Miss Alice Manahan in Saratoga in August of 1918. Besides his widow, he is survived at three children, two daughters, Mrs. Mary Lou (Ed) Murray and Alice Ann Kennaday both the Saratoga, and one son, James, who is attending the local high school.

Other survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Anna Stewart of Greeley, Colo.; Mrs. H. T. Davidson of Saratoga, and Mrs. Logan Cairns of Rawlins, and two brothers, Frank Kennaday of Myrtle Creek, Ore., and Fred Kennaday of Evans, Colo.

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the Saratoga Presbyterian church, with the services in charge of Rev. Robt. J. Ware. Vocal music for the service was by Mrs. Harold Willford. The McKelvey Funeral Home of Rawlins was in charge of arrangements and interment was in the Saratoga cemetery. Deceased was a veteran of World War I, and graveside services were held by Angus England Post 54, American Legion, of which he was a member.
