Robert Nelson Sr.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at St. Jude Catholic Church for Robert G. "Bob" Nelson Sr. of Eugene, who died July 17 of age-related causes. He was 85. A reception will follow the service at St. Jude Parish Hall.

He was born Sept. 12, 1923, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Charles and Emma Dawes Nelson. He married Edith Hackett on Sept. 12, 1951, in Sioux Falls.

He served in the 3rd Army, 6th Armored Engineers Combat Battalion in Europe during World War II and received the Bronze Star. He held an associate's degree in business and worked in the insurance business beginning in 1957.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Robert Jr. of Eugene, James of Salem and Jeffrey of Beaverton; a daughter, Patricia Polter of Eugene; and nine grandchildren.

Inurnment will be in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland. Arrangements by Major Family Funeral Home in Springfield. Remembrances to the Relief Nursery.
