Tomie Carpenter was born November 24, 1915 in Jackson County, KY and departed this life Monday, July 20, 2009 at his residence in Berea, KY, being 93 years of age. He was the son of the late William (Doc) & Anne (Rose) Carpenter.
Tomie was united in marriage to Mary Belle (Lakes) Carpenter for 51 years, before she passed away in 1989. To this union was born the following children- Hisel (Geraldine) Carpenter, Marvin Carpenter and Sid (Karen) Carpenter all of Richmond, Ind., Willie Carpenter of McKee, KY, Vadis (Ronnie) Bellew of Centerville, Ind, Agnes Turner of Berea, KY, Dennis Carpenter & Ina Faye Carpenter whom are both deceased.
Later in life Tomie married Stella (Hensley) Carpenter, who survives him. Other survivors include two step children- Ed Hensley and Ruby Coyle both of McKee, KY, ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and one step- great-grandson.
In addition to his parents, first wife and two children, Tomie was also preceded in death by a sister- Mary Dotter and by a granddaughter- Kelly Carpenter.
Tomie is of the Holiness Faith.
Funeral services were held 11:00 AM Friday, July 24, 2009 at Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Leonard Wilder, Bro. Hisel Carpenter & Bro. Bill Rose officiating. Burial followed in the Pine Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandsons- Danny, Chris & Armps Carpenter, Allen Coyle, Matt & Brian Bellew.
