OCEANA -- B. Freelin Walker, 67, died Thursday at home after a long illness.

Born Dec. 12, 1918, at Crany, he was the son of the late Turley M. and Mattie B. Stennett Walker.

Mr. Walker was a lifelong resident of Wyoming County, retired from Eastern Associated Coal Corp., Kopperston Division, a member of the Crany Baptist Church, and was a member of the United Mine Workers.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mayefern Cook Walker, on Nov. 2, 1965.

Survivors include his wife, Nannie Brown Walker; a son, Richard Walker of Oceana; a daughter, Mrs. Landon (Jean) Lusk of Oceana; a brother, Turley Walker Jr. of Oceana; two sisters, Athleen M. Acord of Wildwood; Fla., and Mrs. George (Maggie) Terry of Oceana; a stepson, James O. (Jimmy) Brown, of Wildwood, Fla.; four grandsons, two stepgrandsons and a great-granddaughter.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at the Evans Memorial Chapel in Oceana with the Rev. Ron Lee officiating. Burial will be in the Kennedy Cemetery at Clear Fork.

Pallbearers will be Garland Griffith, Otis Cook, Tommy Terry, Bernard Bailey, Roger Walker, Leon Steffey and Johnny Aliff Jr.

The Evans and Evans Funeral Directors in Oceana is in charge of arrangements.
