EDEN, N.C. - Marvin E. Stennett, 67, formerly of Oceana, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, in a Greesboro, N.C., hospital following a short illness.

Born Aug. 21, 1933, in Bolt, he was the son of the late Oather B. and Wanda Gunnoe Stennett.

Mr. Stennett was retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service, including service in the Vietnam and Korean conflicts. He was a member of Toneda Baptist Church, Oceana, and spent most of his life in Wyoming County. He was a six-year member of Oceana Town Council and past member of the Chamber of Commerce and a member of the DAV.

He was preceded in death by his wife, June Elizabeth Schnick Stennett; and three brothers, Thomas, James Finley and Roby O¹Dell Stennett.

Survivors include two sons, Marvin Stennett Jr. and his wife, Kimberly Ann, of Stoneville, N.C., and Gary Lee Stennett of Sparta, Wis.; two daughters, Pamela Sue Stennett and Patricia Lynn Stennett, both of Eden; two granddaughters, Anna Marie and Autumn Elizabeth Stennett of Stoneville; and a brother, Otis "Smokey" Stennett and his wife, Susie, of Kopperston.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Toneda Baptist Church, Oceana, with the Revs. Dewight Stafford and Lundy Daniels officiating. Burial will follow in Kennedy Cemetery, Crany.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at Evans Funeral Home, Oceana.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Wyoming County Honor Guard.
