Owen and Catherine had emigrated from Ireland during the Great Famine that occurred in Ireland from 1845 to 1852, part of a mass exodus of over a million people, leaving behind another million that died.
When she was young she became a school teacher, as did her sisters, Mary, Margaret, Josephine Johanna, and Ellen. On the 1870 census it shows that her mother could neither read or write.
Katie married William Morris ERB in Waseca, Minnesota on 02 April 1883.
William was born just south of the town of Lewiston, in Winona County, Minnesota, to Catherine Mary (née FERCIOT) and Peter Frederick ERB, in 1859. In 1878 the Erb family moved from Winona County to New Richland Township, Waseca County.
In 1885 the extended Erb family moved from Waseca County to Cass County, North Dakota.
William and Katherine would farm first in northwestern Cass County, then southwestern Traill County (ND), and finally Red Lake County, Minnesota.
Katherine was the mother of:
Mary Ermenilda ERB (1884-1962; became a nun)
William Egan ERB (1885-1966; Nina Belle CORL)
Leo Eugene ERB (1886-1944; Alice J. HAWKE)
Catherine ???? ERB (1889-1889)
John Harold ERB (1891-1966)
