! Elsie Belle Boring Scharff was born Oct. 31, 1885. in Indianapolis,
Indiana and passed from this life on her 60th birthday, Oct, 31, 1945, at
Basham Hospital, Eureka, Kansas.
At the age of 14, with her parents she moved to Kansas. In 1904 at La
Harpe, Kansas, she was married to James Scharff, who preceded her in
death Feb. 19, 1933. To this union were born eleven children. Twin sons
died at birth. Children surviving are Mrs. Harold Bilson, Mrs.Sherman
Smith, Mrs. Lee Smith, all of Eureka, Mrs. H. E. Daum, Wichita, Mrs. George
Taylor, Joplin, MO., Mrs. Dewayne Taylor, Oklahoma City, Conrad Scharff,
Yuba City, Calif., Sgt. Claude Scharff in the Phillipines, and Cpl. Basil
Scharff in Germany. Surviving are also seventeen grandchildren, one
sister_ _Mrs. Robert Bowes, Tulsa, Okla., and four brothers _ _ Charles
Boring, Neodesha, Mike Boring, Wichita, Henry Boring, Neodesha and W.E.
Boring, California.
The Funeral was conducted at the Baird Funeral Home, Eureka, November
2nd, with Mr. J. Fred Bayless, Minister of the Christian Church
officiating.
Burial at Neodesha.

Loretta Scharff found the following letter. The unedited letter is
addressed to Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Scharff, Yuba City, Calif., Gen. Del.(sic);
postmarked Oct. 15, 1945, 8:30 PM, Eureka, Kans. The letter was written
by Elsie Scharff and with a return address of 821 North Mulberry Eureka,
Kans.

! Dear Nora Conrod Loretta and Babs
Will at last try to get you a letter written boy have I ever been sick but
am feeling better now since its got cool it was so cool untill after noon
then did it get hot today looked rainy but it didnt rain but it sure poured
down last night Nora I finaly got $222 of Claude's allottment got it in
Sept the 18 and have already got his monthly check for this month Tues
night of this week I went over to Irenes with Lee when he took Sherman
and James home and Irene said she got a letter from Mildred that day and
she had got a letter from Claude the Tues before and he told her not to
ans as he'd be home before long Basil dont know when he'll get to come
home Wanetta said the last letter she got from him he said they had
tranferred ) him to the 73 Div. and that it was the Div. that was comeing
home and he wrote to Nadine and said he guessed he'd be home in Mar as
far as he knew then so I dont know what he expect I heard over the radio
that Macks Gaffaney landed in N.Y. a week ago and yesterday I heard
Everette Mocks name I think maybe his name is spelled Mauk am not sure
which it is Burly Davis is home and has his discharge Pansy saw him at
the cafe today Pansy has been real sick I've been trying to get her to quit
and just go to bed and rest and take her medicine but she says she'd
rather work away from home than stay at home. I am worried about her.
She says I'm blamed for everything she says what would I be blamed for
if I'd leave now look what they all said when I came back from I'lls that
time I'll try and get your trunk off this week will get Keith and Skeeter
to load it for us as Lee is working over at Wichita I am sending you and
Conrod a present and remember Conrod this $25 is for you to put on a gun
I dont know any thing about guns but now they are released You surely
can find one some where and Nora I want you to get Your house coat and
house shoes and get a good one now. Nora I am sending you some letters
that came here this one from Bob came with one from Bill he wrote to
But Nora M.R. opened it and lost Bills I found Bobs and hid the rest in my
purse Nora Bill said Sullivan said you'd have to write to him to give your
consent for Bob to stay with them and go to school so they could get the
money to send him to school in other words I made it out that if they
don't get the money Bob gets no school so why dont you write to Sullivan
and have him put Bobs share in trust for him untill he is 21 for you know
if they get it Bob will never get any of it and no clothes either M.R was
in a while last week she went to the show she says she gets so home
sick to come see us she can hardly wait for Sat night to come. She has
went to Joplin 1 week end she got 2 wool dreeses and a good coat given
her I canned 3 qts of peaches for food to day Glenn and Skeeter are
moveing on a farm and I will rent Glenns house, will be here close by.
Pansy too How's Toots and her sugar ha Where does Tootie and John live
at Tell Tootie I'll write her soon I am so nervous I can hardly write any
more I am ashamed of my writeing but cant help it cant expect any
better when one is twisted ha it is like Calif here to night well will get
to bed and finish in the a m goodnight till in the morning Well Good
morning to you all I'll finish this while the coffee is cooking. I smell it a
little so it will soon be boiling the Sat eve Ann and Henry H.E. and Gary
were here Gary wouldnt let H.E. out of his sight he was afraid I was

then and hope that Basil will be the super man and his Bro Jake Daum are

as a Philladelphia lawyer. he was going to write to what was he and

walk Oh yes Barbara and Albert are expect the great event it must be
Alberts as she is trying to save it this is the sixth time she is Dr.Ing
with Dr Jim he's a catholic so she cant get no relief from him as that
isnt a catholics belief Dr John and wife have a boy its about 2 weeks old
the little girl isnt a yr old yet named him John Henry Jr. here is H.E.'s
add. H.E.DAUM Jr. 2675 So Fees Plainview Wichita 10 Kans when I told
him you and Henry give him the 2 ducks he said why did they do that he
wanted to know if you were going to give Loretta and Barbara one too
Ann said some thing about him staying there and going to school this
winter and he says if that old S O B does like he did by G. I am not going
to stay there he say's I'll tell the Judge how he does and that I rather
live with pigs Ann turned her back to him so she could laugh well I must
close for this time will write sooner if I dont have to give up again but
Mom thanks of you all the time if I cant write with lots of love to you all
hopeing to hear from you soon tell the girls hello and all of you come
home for xmas ans soon tell every body hello
