The source of the birth and baptism of Maria is from the published book of the church records of St. Kastor Church in Weiler, Germany. It is a two volume set of 1272 pages beginning in 1682. Her date of birth is on March 12, 1833 and her baptism is on March 13, 1833. She is the first child, and her parents were married on Sept. 3, 1832 at Weiler. There are many tombstones belonging to family members of mine with the incorrect date of birth, and a few with even the incorrect date of death. So this is not uncommon, I am sure in years past the monument companies did not practice the due care to have correct dates as they do now. Most of the sisters of Maria in find a grave have incorrect dates on their site. Thanks for your help. Gene

Wife of John Schumacher 1835-1878 died Minnesota

From the Adams Review:

Mrs. Mary Schumacher, the subject of this sketch died at the home of her oldest son, John Schumacher in Stacyville at 3:30 o'clock on Thursday.

Mrs. Schumacher was born in Germany in 1832 and was therefore seventy-five years of age. When still a young girl she came to this country and located in Illinois where she was married in 1855 to John Schumacher at McHenry, Illinois.

Forty-eight years ago the family removed to Stacyville, Iowa, but remained only a short time. They then moved back to Illinois where they made their home until 1874 when they again returned to this vicinity and settled on a farm in Mower county. Five years ago Mrs. Schumacher went to Stacyville to make her home with her son and remained there until her death occurred.

Mr. Schumacher who was a soldier in the civil war, died in 1878.

Mrs. Schumacher was the mother of fourteen children, five of whom are dead and the nine remaining ones are as follows: Mrs. M. Gerber, of Taopi; Mrs. F. Ginsterblum, of Stacyville, Iowa; Mrs. Mat Schmitt of Austin; Mrs. N. Smith, of Adams; Mrs. W. Smith, of Stacyville, Iowa; John Schumacher, of Stacyville, Iowa; Joseph Schumacher, of Billings, Montana; Jacob Schumacher of McHenry, Illinois; and Wm. Schumacher of Canby, Minn.

Funeral services were conducted at 9:30 o'clock last Monday in Stacyville. The funeral was very largely attended.
