Curtis Joe Wolden was the only son of Georgia (Cross) Wolden and Joe Wolden. He was a carefree kid who loved to play the piano, and he was very good at it, taking lessons from Mrs. Mills. He attended Whittier grade school for the first three grades. And he went to Sunday school at the Wesley Methodist Church, located at that time on Van Eps Ave. Curtis loved playing with his dog, Rusty, outside their home at 336 N. French Ave. in Sioux Falls, S. Dak. On September 29, 1948, at the age of seven, Curtis died of polio at McKennan Hospital. Besides his parents, he was survived by five aunts---Neva Blood, Ione Allan, Judy Johnson, Arley Cross and Velma Cross, and by five uncles---Warren Cross, Sam Cross, Bill Allan, Ken Blood and Ernest Johnson. He is also remembered by two cousins who were playmates---George Allan of Ames, Iowa, and Lon Cross of Sioux Falls, and by four more cousins---Sally Cross, Judy Cross, Linda Johnson and Mike Johnson, who all grew up in Sioux Falls. We were all so sad when we lost him, and he will always be in our hearts.
"I'll lend you for a little time a child of mine,
He said. For you to love while he lives,
and mourn when he is dead.
It may be one day, seven years,
or twenty-two or three.
But will you, till I call him back,
take care of him for me?"
