Billy Joe Chandler, 82, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2009, at his residence in Whiteland.
He was born June 11, 1927, in Lucasville, Ohio, to Roscoe and Ethel Louise (McCandlis) Chandler. He married Marcella Joyce (Kitchen) on May 3, 1947. She preceded him in passing Dec. 18, 1986.
He is survived by his loving children, Teresa (Al) Vibbert of Daphne, Ala., Randy Chandler of Rushville, Gordon Chandler and Kathleen Falkner, both of Indianapolis, Beverly Chandler of Whiteland, David (Faye) Chandler of Shelbyville and Robert (Mary) Chandler of New Palestine; one sister, Rosetta (Earl) Reeves of Enon, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in passing by his parents; his wife, Joyce; daughters, Ruth Ann Chandler and Patricia Reece; a daughter-in-law, Stella Chandler; three sisters, Hazel Boright, Sharon Campbell and Mary Straight; and a brother, Roscoe Chandler Jr.
He attended school in Ohio. Billy was a U.S. Army Air Forces veteran.
He was a farmer for many years. He also was a truck driver, working for Standard Oil and A&E Transport. He also was employed by Farm Bureau.
He was a member of Rivers of Joy Baptist Church in Minford, Ohio; Orange Masonic Lodge No. 234, F&AM; and Knightstown Order of the Eastern Star. Billy enjoyed fishing.
Tim Stuart will conduct a service at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
