George Walker Wyatt, 819 West St., died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at Newman Regional Health. He was 84.

Mr. Wyatt worked for the Didde Corporation before he retired. Earlier, he farmed and then was a truck driver for the Emporia Coffee Company.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, have served as staff sergeant in the European Theater with Company D 379 in the 95th infantry division.

The son of William Arthur and Gertrude Joy Layport Wyatt, he was born Dec. 24, 1921 at Diamond Creek in Chase County. He married Imogene M. Wallace on Jan. 1, 1946, at Grace United Methodist Church. She survives.

Mr. Wyatt was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church. He was a member and post commander several time of Veterans of Foreign Wars Lowry-Funston Post 1980, and Past District 4 commander. He was the Color Guard commander for more than 30 years. He also was a member of American Legion Ball-McColm Post 5 and Eagles Aerie 2587.

He is survived by three daughters, Sharilyn Smith and Lou Ann Krumme, both of Emporia, and Marilyn Facklam of Raytown, Mo.; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Ruth Roth and Blanche Bland; and one brother, William Wyatt, died earlier.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home chapel. Lee Hoskins will conduct the service. Burial, with services conducted by VFW Post 1980 and American Legion Post 5, will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
