Margaret Elizabeth Cummins Walts Kennedy

Margaret Elizabeth Cummins was born May 6, 1852 in Peoria, Ill. Departed this life Jan 2, 1929, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.J. Matzinger, 1614 Edmond St., St Joseph, Mo., at the age of 76 years 7 months and 26 days.

She was the oldest of six girls born to Stephen Cummins and Almira S. Darst Cummins who lived on a farm east of Eureka, Ill., when they were raising their family. Mrs. Cummins and her youngest child, Minnie, are buried in Secor,

On Jan 1, 1871, in Secor, Ill., she was united in marriage to Mr. James Henry Walts, who departed this life April 21, 1911 and is buried in Graves Cemetery in Guilford, Mo.

On Feb 5, 1913, she was united in marriage to Mr. A.W. Kennedy, who departed this life Dec 22, 1922.

She leaves to mourn their loss eight children, six sons and two daughters. Harry Walts of Halbrite, Sask., Canada, Ralph Walts of Parnell, Mo., Roy Walts of Tacoma, Wash., and Lee, Earl and Guy of Lakeside, Nebr., Mrs. Carrie Wallace of Guilford, Mo., and Mrs. Villa Matzinger of St. Joseph, Mo. One daughter, Maude Kennedy and one son, Maynard, having preceded her in death. She also leaves thirty grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren. One half-brother, Mr. James Cummins, and a half-sister, Mrs. Clara Wilson of Sheridan, Wyoming and a sister, Mrs. Carrie Hallam of Rich Hill, Missouri.

She was baptised at the early age of sixteen, in the First Christian Church of Secor, Ill. She was a very active and hard worker in the church circle. She has brought all of her children to love and respect Our Lord. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Guilford.

The body was brought to Guilford for burial the funeral being conducted from the Methodist Church Saturday afternoon by the pastor Rev. E. L. Rutledge. The pall bearers were six grandsons: Wilburn and Merlin Wallace, John Matzinger, Lloyd Kennedy and Don and Paul Walts. The body was buried in the Graves Cemetery northeast of town.

The out of town friends and relatives that attended the funeral of Mrs. Kennedy Saturday were: Harry Walts of Halbrite Sask., Canada; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Walts and sons, Donald and Paul of Parnell, Mo.; Wilburn Wallace of Excelsior Springs, Mo; Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Matzinger and son Johnny, Lloyd Kennedy, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Leava and Mrs. Edith Thompson, all of St. Joseph and Guy and Earl Walts of Lakeside, Nebr.
