Viet vet, Youngstown mayor's son
YOUNGSTOWN - Vietnam veteran Thomas H. Acome, 35, of 999 Balmer Road, died yesterday (July 22, 1984) in Sheehan Memorial Hospital, Buffalo. He had been hospitalized for six days after being found on a transformer at the Union Carbide Corp. plant in Niagara Falls last week.
"He was a mechanic and a carpenter; he covered many fields of endeavor, a jack-of-all-trades." said his brother James D. Acome of Youngstown. "He was a great tinkerer. He loved to take things apart and put them back together."
He served for nearly two years in Vietnam with the Army Corps of Engineers from 1968 to 1971.
A native of Lockport, he lived in Youngstown most of his life. He had returned from Colorado a few months ago to live with his mother, Mrs. Madeline (Clements) Acome.
He is also survived by his father, Carl H. Acome, the mayor of Youngstown; his step-mother Louise Acome of Youngstown; a daughter Margaret Acome of Youngstown; sons Anthony Acome of Youngstown and Mark Acome of Denver; sisters Mrs. Richard (Mary) Henneman of Mason, Mich. and Mrs. John (Judith) Loomis, Middlesex, N.Y.; and brothers James and Carl S., Middleport.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Hardison Funeral Home, Ransomville.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Dr. Charles Stratton of the First United Presbyterian Church, Youngstown, officiating.
Burial will be in Oakland Rural Cemetery.
