Tyrone Topics: Deaths of two prominent physicians, Another physician hurt.
Dr. David Jeffries Appleby, after three weeks illness, died at his home, 228 East Tenth street, yesterday morning at 5 o'clock of uraemic poison. The deceased was a son of Alexander and Anna E. Appleby, both deceased, and was born near Shade Gap, in Huntingdon county, February 12, 1849, being aged at death 57 years, 4 months, and 21 days. Dr. Appleby graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgery at Baltimore, Md., and immediately thereafter commenced the practice of medicine, first in his native county and following in Blair county at East Freedom, Tyrone, and for a short period at Loraine, Ohio, and from thence to Altoona, returning again to Tyrone a few years ago. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Tyrone, and also of the Masonic fraternity. In 1870 he was united in marriage to Miss Martha G. Collins, who survives with one son and one daughter. Dr. A. G. Appleby, of Loraine, Ohio, and Miss Mary D. Appleby, at the family home. The following brothers and sisters also survive: Mrs. George Dorne, of Burnt Cabins; Mrs. William Thompson, of Petersburg; Mrs. Belle Elliott, of Curwensville; and Miss Rosa Appleby, of Napoleon, North Dakota. The funeral will take place to-morrow. Services at the late home of the deceased at 11:45 o'clock will be conducted by Rev. George T. Gunter and Rev. L.F. Bergstresser. The remains will be taken to Hollidaysburg for interment.
