J.W. "Dick" Steen, 60, mayor of Checotah in Indian Territory days, and former member of the legislature from McIntosh county, died in Dallas, Texas Sunday following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Charles H. Nixon, pastor of the First Methodist church officiating. Burial was in the Texanna cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dick West, E.K. Gross, P.P. Rutherford, J.W. Marlin, Jay Oslin and Acy Livingston.
Steen is survived by three nieces, Juanita Kerr and Gladys and Letha Vanderver, all of San Antion; eith cousins, George Bennett, George Steen and Mrs. Jay Oslin, all of Muskogee; Mrs. Ella Graham, Dallas; Mrs. Tishie Mullens, Oklahoma City; Jim and Jess Steen, both of Checotah and Charlie Steen of Warner.
