AUGUSTUS E. BARNES Death of a Pioneer at Yorkville. Augustus E. Barnes, a pioneer of Yorkville, died Saturday morning at his home. He had been failing for a year or two and had been confined to the house for about six months. He was about 80 years of age. Mr. Barnes was born in Oneida county, N. Y., and came to Yorkville with his parents when a small boy. His father built the first grist mill in Michigan west of Detroit, in the 30's. Mr. Barnes was a stalwart Republican and a man of sterling integrity. Mrs. Barnes died about twenty years ago. Three daughters survive, Mrs. C. P. Morse of Mitchell, S. D., Mrs. S. O. Bovie of Augusta, Mrs. Charles Powers of Vicksburg. A sister Mrs. Horace M. Peck of Kalamazoo, and two brothers, A. B. Barnes of Richland and M. P. Barnes of Wichita, Kas., also remain. The funeral was led this afternoon at 2:30. at Mr. Barnes' late home. H. B. Peck, C. A. Peck, Mrs. J. C. Burrows, Mrs. M. B. Barnett and Mrs. J. T. Upjohn, nephews and nieces, attended the funeral. YORKVILLE, Mich, Oct. 20 -(Special) —The funeral of the late Augustus Barnes was held at the church Monday, at 2:30 p. m. As his daughter, Mrs. Clarissa Morse was not able to get here, the burial was held Wednesday morning. The deceased was born at Camden, N. Y., March 4, 1820. In 1831 at the age of 11, he came with his parents and located just north of Charles S. May's residence. He married Miss Sarah Julia at Camden, N. Y., in 1845. She died in 1888 and in 1891 he married Mrs. Harriet Turner of Wayland, who survives him. The subject of this sketch had been one of the church trustees tor a great many years and was a liberal donater to all church work. In cases of sickness and death he was always ready to extend a helping hand and officiated as funeral director. The respect and esteem in which he was held was shown by the largo circle of friends who attended the funeral. Besides his immediate family two brothers, M. P. Barnes of Wichita, Kas, A. B. Barnes of Richland and a sister, Mrs. H. M. Peck of Kalamazoo. Relatives who attended the funeral from away were Dr. and Mrs. James Upjohn, Mrs. M. S. Barnett, Mrs. J. C. Burrows, H. B. Peck and C. A. Peck of Kalamazoo; Mr. and Mrs. John Turner and Dr. Jerome Turner of Wayland; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Moulton of Decatur; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Powers and son Howard of Vicksburg; Mr. and Mrs. A.
