Martha Beatrice Brown Mosher was the wife of Arthur A. Mosher, and the daughter of Capt. Joseph A. Brown & Mattie Dorriss Brown Wisker of St. Louis, Missouri. Her grandfather was George P. Dorriss, a wealthy entrepreneur of St. Louis. Mattie, as she was known, was actively involved in the social life of St. Louis in the late 1870's and 1880's and then in New York City during the late 1890's and early 1900's. She published "Child Culture in the Home, A Book for Mothers" in 1898. Her husband, Arthur A. Mosher, was a nephew of womens' rights activist, Susan B. Anthony. For many years the family lived in the historic Graham Court in Harlem. Mattie is buried with her son, Howard Haviland Mosher and his two wives.
