Obituary:
Funeral Services were held on Monday July 24, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. in St Andrew's Catholic Church for Arthur B Atherton. Rev. Father Stan Schmit officiated.
A wake service with Rosary was held on Sunday July 23, 2000 at the Bloomfield Good Samaritan Center where he had been a resident in recent years.
Arthur was buried in the St Andrews Cemetery with Scott Brockhaus Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pall bearers were Dorrance Atherton, Kyle Atherton, Douglas Folkers, Thomas Folkers, William Fujan and Andrew Fujan.
Arthur died July 21, 2000 at the Bloomfield Good Samaritan Center at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 6 days.
He was born on April 15, 1916 in Randolph, Nebraska to Elmer and Mary Meyer Atherton. He attended St Francis de Chantal School in Randolph. He graduated from High School in 1934. After leaving the family farm he was employed by the US Department of Defense and worked at the Hastings Bomb Depot. Arthur also worked on the construction of Gavins Point Dam, which was completed in 1952.
Arthur worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads, Construction Division in the Engineering and Road Inspection areas in the Hartington, Nebraska field office, until he retired. He worked on many road construction project, mainly in D.O.R. District 3, in Northeast Nebraska.
Arthur was married to Marcella Hunter in Sioux City, Iowa in 1964 and following Marcella's death he married Evelyn Bliss who also preceeded him in death.
He is survived by his sister Francis Polly of Montevideo, Minnesota and brother Eugene Atherton of Bloomfield, NE.;
as well as his sister-in-law , LaVerne Atherton and brother-in-law Milford Folker, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Arthur was preceed in death by his parents, both wives, and sisters, Elvina Clabaugh and Marguerite Folkers.
Neither of Arthur's wives are buried in St Andrew's cemetery. Arthur is buried next to his parents.

Marcella Hunter, Arthur's 1st wife, and Arthur were married in Sioux City, Iowa on Oct 19,1964 At the time of their marriage Art was temporarily living in Omaha, Ne., working on the yet to be completed Interstate Highway 80. They lived in Omaha in late 1964 until he was transferred back to the Hartington D.O.R. Construction office, in late 1964.
Marcella was born Feb 19, 1916, she died in June 1980 in Bloomfield, Nebraska. She is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa with the first husband Bruce. Her social security # was 478-12-8765.

She was born January 18,1919 She married Dale Bliss December 18,1946. Evelyn and Dale were the parents of Raymond, Jerry, Patrick, Sam and Vicki Bliss. Dale Bliss died Jan 26, 1976. She married Arthur Atherton April 4,1982.
