John graduated from St. Maries High School in St. Maries, ID. He then went on to the University of Idaho in Moscow. WWII interrupted his college education. He joined the Navy's V-12 program & graduated from Columbia University Midshipman School in New York in 1944. He was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S.N.R. Then later became a Lieutenant JG & served on the U.S.S. Natrona. He was discharged from the Navy in 1946. John returned to the University of Idaho to finish his pre medical education. In 1947 he went on to Hahnemann Medical School in Philadelphia, PA & graduated in 1951. After a year of internship at the Swedish Hospital in Seattle he received his medical degree. He made the decision to move to Enumclaw and start his practice there in 1954. He practiced for 39 years in Enumclaw before retiring in September 1992.

John enjoyed the outdoor life of the great northwest. He spent many years hiking, skiing, and mountain climbing. For 50 years he was an active member of the Kiwanis. He was also a member of the V.F.W. and active in the annual U.S.S. Natrona reunion. John was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Enumclaw. He had traveled to Guatemala as a medical missionary.
