Permilia/Pamelia 'Millie' Sarah Robinson Lewis was born at Ridge Farm, Vermilion County, Illinois, the first of 6 children born to Henry Robinson (born February 16, 1826 near Westminister Abbey in London, England and died July 19, 1878 in San Buenaventura, California) and Huldah Macy (b. December 18, 1833 in Indiana, and died July 30, 1859). Huldah's twins died 5 days before that on July 25, 1859 (possibly complications of birth?).

*Permilia was probably named after her maternal aunt, Permilia Macy.

*Millie's father, Henry Robinson married a second time to Amelia Nance on May 7, 1865 in Chico, Butte County. They then moved to Ventura Co. California in 1869. Henry was a prominent citizen who had five children by the time of his death.

In addition to twin siblings (a boy & a girl),'Millie' had two sisters: Elley/Ella May Robinson (born Oct. 23, 1852 in Georgetown, Vermilion Co., Illinois - who died at the age of 20 on Jan. 30, 1873 in Elwood, Clinton Co., Iowa), and Mary Evangeline 'Eva' (born Sept. 2, 1856 in Urbana, Champaign Co., Illinois and who died on June 23, 1858 before her 2nd birthday.) Millie also had a brother, Thomas Ezra Robinson (born 16 Sept., 1854 in Urbana, Champaign Co., Illinois).

He joined the Union Army (Co. I, 2nd Ill. Cavalry) after hearing about the Union defeat at Bull Run. He was severely wounded at the Battle of Pleasant Hill and amputation of the ankle joint of his right foot was necessary to save his life.

Thomas and Millie Lewis had four children:
1) Lela 'Josie' Lewis (born Sept. 27, 1871 2 miles north of Belle Plaine, Sumner Co., Kansas and died on her 27th birthday, September 27, 2898.
2) Edward Floyd Lewis (born May 26, 1880 in Urbana, Champaign Co., Illinois and died Nov. 19, 1960 in Long Beach, L.A. Co., California.
3) L. Grace Lewis (born June 27, 1885 in Urbana, Champaign, Illinois and died March 7/17, 1896 at the age of 6 from heart disease.
4) Edna Elizabeth Lewis (born Dec. 31, 1889 in Santa Monica, California and died July 23, 1965). Edna married Fred R. Boynton and they had a son, Lester.

In the Jun. 12, 1880 U.S. census, 30 yr. old Millie S. Lewis, b. in IL., was living on W. Main St. in Urbana, Champaign, IL. with her

and 30 yr. old servant, Lida Dunn

In the 1900 U.S. census, 47 yr. old widow, Millie S. Lewis, b. Dec. 1850 in IN., was living at 424 Fourth St. in Santa Monica, L.A., CA. with her
20 yr. old son, E. Floyd Lewis, at school, b. May 1880 in IL.
10 yr. old daughter, Edna E. Lewis, at school, b. Dec. 1889 in IL.
Edward Floyd Lewis's father was b. in IN.
Millie's father was b. in England and her mother in IN.
Millie was the mother of four children, only two still alive by this census.

According to the 1910 U.S. census, 59 yr. old widow, Millie S Lewis, b. in IL., was living off her own income at 1248 Pico St. in Los Angeles Assembly District 72, Los Angeles, CA. with her
19 yr. old daughter, Edna E. Lewis, b. in
Millie's father was b. in England and her mother in IN.
Edna's father was b. in IN.
Millie was the mother of four children, only two still alive by this census.
*Note: According to the 1910 Los Angeles City & County directory, Millie was living at 1248 S. Bonnie Brae in L.A.

1912, '13 - Los Angeles City & County Directory - Millie Lewis, widow of T.A., was living at 1663 1/2 S. Normandie Ave. in L. A.

1914 - Los Angeles City & County Directory - Millie Lewis, widow of Thomas A., was living at 1248 S. Bonnie Brae in L. A.

In the 1930 U.S. census, 79 yr. old widow, Millie Lewis, b. in IL., was living alone in a rented home at 225 Junipero St. (not far from the San Gabriel Mission and not far from where her son, E.F. Lewis lived) in San Gabriel, Los Angeles, CA.
Millie's father was b. in England and her mother in IL.
Millie was 20 when she married.

On Nov. 20, 1929, Millie's son, Edward Floyd Lewis divorced his wife, Ethel and married Elsie Sanford.
E.F. and Elsie moved to South Gate, L.A., CA. and Millie presumably moved from San Gabriel to Santa Monica soon after the 1930 census to be closer to her son.

Millie's brother, Andrew T. Lewis, a lawyer in Oregon, wrote a letter to Millie's daughter, Edna, on Jan. 21, 1931, stating, " We received a Christmas card from your mother. You said in your last letter that she was going to live with you. Hope her health is as good as usual."

Millie died on March 24, 1933 of Broncopneumonia and cancer in Santa Monica., L.A., CA.

From an April 25, 1933 letter written by A. T. Lewis wrote to his nephew Floyd Lewis (son of his brother, Thomas A. Lewis):
"Of the members of the Lewis family in Los Angeles, my main dependence was on Edna. I was unable to fathom why Edna ceased to answer my letters. I tried to figure out what I had written that had perturbed her. I know the Lewis family and at times are easily offended when no offense intended, also sister Mary.
All of the original Lewis family have now passed away. I am the only living representative. It was first, Mary and Frank Myers, second, Thomas A. and Millie S. Lewis, third, John M. and Fannie lewis. I was surprised to learn Sister(-in-law) Millie passed away March the 24th and that Edna has had a nervous break down which has lasted so long. Hope she will soon recover.
Mary's family, there is left Willis Lewis Myers and Mae. This latter one I know very little about. I am of the opinion she is easily offended. Of Tom's family, there are two left, you and Edna. My opinion of you when I knew you in your younger days was that you had all the bad traits of your father and then some and it was doubtful whether you would amount to anything when you grew up. Mrs. A. T. and I were very much pleased with you and attracted to your family of children.
John's heirs consist of Stanley and Ralph, very nice boys. They have families of their own.
My family consists of Arthur H. lewis, Attorney, who has the reputation with the judges of this State and of the Bar as a good, dependable lawyer. He appeared for Byron-Jackson Company here in a suit by one of its employees for a considerable sum of money as damages. Won in the Circuit Court and also in the Supreme Court. Members of his family are two girls: Elizabeth Lewis Scott has two boys; Franklin M. Lewis a wife and baby girl.
Your present wife (Elsie) we would be pleased to see and welcome her as one of the Lewis clan.
Returning to Millie's demise, she wished to pass away. I do not blame her for the wish. When in Los Angeles in 1928, I looked at her with pity as she rolled around in her chair, yet she seemed cheerful and took it as a matter of course. I suppose the fire you speak of next door had a great effect on her. We had a fire at our house in 1918, which burned off the roof, was about all the damage. Mrs. A. T. ever since dreads a fire and is constantly watching out for another."
Wife of Thomas A. Lewis. Mother of Lela, E. Floyd, Grace and Edna Lewis.
Note regarding the headstones: There is no headstone for Millie. According to Woodlawn Cemetery records, Millie is buried to the left of the LEWIS monument in grave "B".
