John Arthur Smith, Sr., was born at Galena, Kansas, on February 14, 1888. Later moving to Oklahoma, he was married to Maude M. Comer on August 14, 1914, at Alden, Oklahoma. They established a home on a farm in the Alden community where they resided until moving northwest of Apache, Oklahoma, in 1944. Three years later they moved to Marlow, Oklahoma, and farmed there until 1952, when they retired and moved back to Apache.

Children:

James W. of Canadian, Texas; Harry Lee, Amarillo, Texas; Robert and John A. Jr., both of Apache; Mrs. Milton Steen, Tuttle, Oklahoma; Mrs. Jimmy Long, Newcastle, Oklahoma; Mrs. Earl Linnamann, Mrs. Dale Tipsword, and Mrs. Floyd Martin, all of Apache. Brother of Mrs. B.H. Zimmerman, Mountain View, Oklahoma, and B.L. Smith, Plainview, Texas.
