~ Robert Brown Obituary ~

Lifelong local resident Robert Carl Brown, 93, of Longview entered the arms of his Lord Sept. 6, 2008, at home.

He was born Jan. 31, 1915, in Kelso, to Harry and Marguerite (Wilkenson) Brown and attended Kelso High School. As a teen he helped his uncle, Frank Wilkenson, cook at the Harry Truman Lodge.

Bob was a carpenter with the local union for many years. He built a number of cabins along Toutle River and helped build the Boy Scout lodge across Spirit Lake. He was a member of First Christian Church since his marriage to Imogene Huffman Oct. 4, 1941. He sang in the church choir and was, at one time, in a barber shop quartet. Bob loved being a rock hound and lapidary work. He loved his family, the Bible and his flower and vegetable garden. Bob was fun-loving with a wonderful sense of humor.

Bob is survived by his wife, Imogene Brown at home; four daughters, Paula and her husband, Charles Griebel, and Priscilla and her husband, Rick Chapman, both of Longview, Pamela Bassett of Santa Clarita, Calif., and Phyllis Brown of Vancouver; a sister, Winifred Chandler of Longview; four grandchildren, Steve Griebel, Andrea Dodge and Nicholas Chapman, all of Longview and Christopher Bassett of Santa Clarita; and five great-grandchildren, Will and Allysen Dodge, and Cole, Brayden and Jackson Chapman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank Brown; and a sister, Dorothy Graham.

A private family celebration of Bob's life will be held at a later date. Interment has taken place at Longview Memorial Park.

Contributions in Bob's name may be made to the First Christian Church of Longview, 2000 E. Kessler Blvd., Longview, WA 98632.

Arrangements are by Cascade Northwest Funeral Chapel at Green Hills Memorial Gardens & Crematory.
