Roy Warren Ritchie was the only child of Martin and Mayme Ritchie. Born in Aspen in 1913, he came with his parents to San Pedro, CA in the early 1920s, where he lived until college. He graduated with a degree in forestry from U.C. Berkeley in 1939, and shortly thereafter joined the U.S. Navy. He served on two ships during WWII, the U.S.S Lansdale in the Atlantic, and the U.S.S. Beaumont in the Pacific. After the war, he made his living in northern California as a forester. He retired in Redding, where he passed away in 1999.
