James Allison Searight was the son of William and Rachel Brownfield Searight. He was the great-grandson of William Searight who came from County Donegal, Ireland in 1740 and settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
James led a very distinguished life as stated in the obituary to the right....
James never married and has no descendants. He was influential in his community and devoted to his family and to preserving the history of the Searight Family. He published a book in 1893 ~ A History of the Searight Family in America.
He took care of his mother, Rachel Searight Strider in her later years and is listed in her household on the 1880 US Census.
On the 1900 US Census, he lived next door to his sister Jean Searight Shuman. Two of her sons, Thomas and George Shuman are employed by James in his insurance business. His niece, Emma Shuman is listed as a housekeeper in his residence.
The 1910 US Census shows that he has moved into his sister, Jean Searight Shuman's home along with other family members.
James and his sister, Elizabeth Searight Colvin, traveled extensively in their later years.
James, 78, died is buried in Grace Episcopal Cemetery along with other members of his family. He was the last of his siblings to die.
