From a newspaper (Staunton, IL) story published on Clement's 101st birthday: "He remembers vividly his 21st birthday which he remembers as being his luckiest. On that day he was in an explosion which blew him over 100-feet and when he landed he had no broken bones, but he recalls that he was so stiff and sore that his mother had to feed him. Mr. Binning summed up his longevity by saying,' I have lived through a wonderful era, marked with amazing improvements. For example, farm tools, I used when a boy wouldn't even look like tools these days'".
