On Dec. 21, 1775 at Lebanon, Eliphalet m. Mary West, dau. of Dea. Joshua West and Elizabeth Williams. She was b. per her grave stone June 11, 1754 (June 2 in Lebanon VRs) and d. Mar. 12, 1835 at Lebanon. They had 10 children of record at Lebanon: William, John, Mary (d.y.), Abigail, Eliphalet, Mary again, Lucy (d. unm), Elizabeth, Timothy Edwards, and Emily.
Eliphalet and Mary have a tall slender obelisk at Lebanon's Center, aka Trumbull, Cemetery. It is somewhat unique as it portrays Eliphalet's line of descent from the family's immigrant Metcalf ancestor; Eliphalet6 (William,5 Jonathan,4-3 Michael,2-1). However, none of Eliphalet's Metcalf ancestors are interred at this same cemetery. His parents and paternal grandparents are interred at the Old Cemetery at Lebanon while the prior three Metcalf generations are interred at Dedham, Mass.
The inscription includes an apparent erroneous statement regarding the birth year of the immigrant Michael Metcalf.
