On the morning of January 9, 1958 Mrs Cavenaugh and her three children were discovered deceased at the Cavenaugh family residence on Marsh Ave in Reno, NV.

The father, Robert A. Cavenaugh (1903-1976) was on business in Chicago. He was the owner of Universal Life Insurance and the secretary of Chicago Commercial Insurance as well as a primary owner of the Holiday Hotel in Reno. He was also a board member of the Reno Country Club. During the Truman Administration, he served as a civilian aide under Secretary of the Army Frank Pace and Robert T. Stevens.

He was previously married then divorced to actress Bobbe Arnst (1903-1980) who stated he had no sense of humor and accused him of mental cruelity. At one time he was a prominent Chicago and Reno attorney having graduated from Chicago Kent College of Law in 1928.

Mrs. Cavenaugh was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and the first woman to serve on the Board of the Washoe County Library. In an April, 1956 interview in the Nevada State Journal, she stated that the most important thing about herself was that she was the mother of three children. She was also a member of the Reno Medical Guild and a board member of the Reno Light Opera.

Mrs Cavenaugh's service was held at St John's Presbyterian Church and presided over by Rev. Rafe C. Martin. She was the daughter of Mr. Elmer R. Frimoth and Stella S. of Clinton, Ia., sister of Rev Elmer. Frimoth of Stockton, CA and sister of Mrs. Gwen Burns of Portland, Ore. .

The childrens service were held the same day at Our Lady of the Snows and presided over by MSGR Rev Fr PJ Connors. Robert "Anthony" was 9, Carol 8, and Kevin 4.

Mother and children were buried at what was then known as Mater Dolorosa Cemetary- Our Mother of Sorrows.
