Visitation is planned for Tuesday, September 27, 2016 from 5 until 7 pm at Seven Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral services are planned for 11 AM Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Camp Ground Baptist Church with Bro. Jerry King officiating. Burial will follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery with Jake Fowler, Cole Higdon, Jessey Higdon, Jr., Trea Higdon, Ike Gilley, and Dalton Higdon serving as pallbearers.
Mary was retired as the manager of the Dollar General Store after nearly 25 years. She was a faithful member of Camp Ground Baptist Church, where she taught a discipleship training class and had been a Sunday School teacher for many years. She loved studying the Bible, and lived out her love for Christ through visiting the homebound and serving her community. She was cherished by her children and grandchildren, as well as her many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Sam Higdon, Sr., which allowed her to serve as a pastor’s wife for many years. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Debra Overby and Donna Conaway; a son, Willie Higdon; three grandchildren; seven brothers; and two sisters.
She is survived by a daughter, Lucy Gilley (Larry) of Dumas, AR; two sons, Jessey Higdon (Debbie) of Bruce, MS, and Sam Higdon, Jr. (Sherri) of Water Valley, MS; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty one great grandchildren.
