Dewey was born the son of the late Dewey and Alice (Davidson) Shawver Dewey attended Edgington School and graduated from Lyons High School in 1946. While in high school, Dewey participated in football and FFA. On December 9, 1949, Dewey married Wanda Whynona "Nonie" Luce at her parents' home in Lyons. Born to this union were daughters, Debora Lee, Peggy Lynne, Bonnie Lou, Patsy Jo and son, Dewey Dountain III. Dewey's life passion was logging and trucking. He farmed until he moved to Idaho in 1951, where he worked in a lumber mill and then drove a logging truck until they returned to Nebraska in 1970. He returned to Idaho in 1974 and drove a chip truck until his retirement. Dewey enjoyed returning to Nebraska several falls to drive truck for the Bacons during harvest. Nonie passed away in 2000. Dewey returned to Lyons in 2001. Dewey married Erma Alexander on June 23, 2001 and the family grew! Dewey attended church in each community he lived in. He most recently attended church at Bethany Lutheran in Lyons. Dewey enjoyed camping and fishing, watching westerns, wood working and was an excellent mechanic. He will be greatly missed! He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nonie, son, Larry Marvin; brothers-in-law: Bill Gordon and Lee Besst; and recently his dear friend, Gerald Bacon. Survivors include his wife, Erma of Lyons; four daughters and sons-in-law, Debora and Rick Augenstein of Moscow, Idaho, Peggy and Terry Metzler of Decatur, Nebraska, Bonnie and Dale Pueppke of Lyons, Patsy Bowser of Harrison, Idaho; son and daughter-in-law, Dewey "Duke" and Pam of St. Maries, Idaho; five stepchildren and their spouses; 22 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
