Elton was the youngest of 10 children and was also known as Lee. Elton was born in Rush Springs. Later he and his family moved to El Reno. He joined the Marines when he was 20. He moved to Tampa, Fla., in 1974, where he met Virginia. They married in 1975 and moved to Mesquite, Texas, where they adopted another daughter. He retired from Dana Corp. and they started RVing. They joined a band where he sang and played his guitar. They retired in Newcastle so that they could be close to Susan, their daughter.
Lee was very active in the AMVETS organization, and enjoyed calling bingo. When he moved to Newcastle he became active at the Newcastle Senior Citizens where he loved playing dominoes. He joined the Newcastle Christian Church and loved going to hear Pastor Rod on Sundays.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Virginia; six children, James Sorrels of El Reno, Steve and wife, Jill Sorrels of Geary, Mark and wife, Sherry Sorrels of Calumet, Craig Sorrels of El Reno, Susan Lunsford and husband, Don of Newcastle and Tatum D. Sorrels of Fort Worth, Texas; and two older sisters, Audrey Bean and Gertrude Forest, who live in Illinois; many grandchildren and some great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Newcastle Christian Church, 2200 N. Main St., Newcastle, Okla. 73065, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, 2009.
