He is survived after 55 years of marriage by his beloved wife and life force, Mary Lee; his children, Debra and Robert (Bob); grandsons Laland and Matthew; and sisters Lenore, Mae and Marge.
Gene grew up in the Reno, Nev., area and graduated from Sparks High School. Very athletic, Gene was very good at basketball and baseball. He even played with the Reno Silver Sox, a Brooklyn Dodgers Double-A farm team, as a shortstop. Gene was also a golfer and, like most golfers, hated his scores but loved to play.
Gene, Mary Lee and Debra moved to Los Angeles where Robert was born in 1955. He started working at the SoCal Gas Company in 1956 as a meter reader and was eventually promoted to Foothill Division supervisor in 1988, retiring in 1992 after 36 years of dedicated service.
He retired to Silver Lakes where he played golf and joined the Silver Lakes Entertainers, a group in the community that put on a yearly musical/comedy production. Some of his performances were favorite parts of the show.
Gene will be remembered for his honor and integrity, as you could believe whatever he told you, as well as his happy spirit, fairness and his deep love for his family and friends. He was someone you could count on and was always ready to help out.
We loved him dearly and will miss him. He will live on in our hearts forever.
A celebration of Gene's life will take place on July 24. A funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. at Christ the Good Shepard Catholic Church in Adelanto and interment will be at 1 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area 1, where he will have a military funeral service.
