L. M. Peebles was the son of Bird Peebles. He lived in Chesterfield Township for 44 years in a house his father built in 1840.
His parents were leaders in building up the Methodist Episcopal Church in Chesterfield. He was one of the first pupils to attend the Sunday School that was established in Chesterfield Township. He was chiefly engaged in agricultural pursuits and raised a great deal of stock, making a specialty of horses and cattle. At one time he was engaged in the drug and grocery business at Chesterfield. He built a brick kiln and manufactured brick for one year. He was a thorough going temperance man and a leader of the Prohibition Party.
