Alfred Butterworth, age 89, a Marietta resident, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2009.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. August 5, 2009 at Medford-Peden Funeral Home in Marietta, GA.

Interment will immediately follow at Kemp Cemetery in Marietta, GA.

Mr. Butterworth was a Georgia native and lived here all his life. He was Baptist in faith and a member of New Home Baptist Church. He served in the Army during World War II and was with General Motors for 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Margie Butterworth. Survivors include one son, Norman Butterworth of Marietta, GA; two daughters, Myrna Law-Shultz of Cedartown, GA and Lori Barrett of Kennesaw, GA, two sisters, Florine Abernathy and Loura Bell Cantrell; six grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will be receiving friends 5:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m. Monday, August 3, 2009 and 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at the funeral home.
