~ Edward Davies Obituary ~
Lifelong Longview resident Edward Joseph Davies passed away Aug. 8, 2008, at home. He was 80 years old.
He was born June 29, 1928, in Longview, to William and Dolores (Packard) Davies. He was a graduate of R.A. Long High School. He also graduated from Brigham Young University and did graduate work at Central Washington University.
He married Karyl Lea Bench Aug. 15, 1950. She survives him at home.
Edward was a very involved member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and Karyl Lea served a mission for their church to Marion, Va. He also was a branch president in Cathlamet for several years.
Edward was an art teacher at Monticello and Cascade Middle Schools. He then taught third grade at Robert Gray Elementary School until his retirement. He was a very creative man, specializing in oil paintings, which he displayed in many exhibits. He loved to travel and has been all around the world on several cruises and trips. He loved barbershop quartet singing and playing handball. He was an active member in the local camera club. He helped organize the slow pitch league in Longview.
In addition to his wife, Karyl Lea Davis, Edward is survived by a sister, Bonnie Fisher of Kirkland, Wash.; a daughter, Lorille Bird of Longview; a son, Kevin Davies of Friendswood, Texas; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and various other family members.
He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Edward Davies, in 1955; and a daughter, Deborah Lea Timothy, in 1981.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1721 30th Ave., Longview. A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to service time at the church.
