Clifton Alton (as his mother named him) was born to John Randolph and Fannie Bennett Walling. He grew up in the Redtown Community (as we called it, the old homeplace)
a big red house that was down Cr 2419 about 5 miles, and turn toward Myrtle Springs. Just a jump and there it was. It was later bought by Shelby Pierson in 1945. All the children were grown by then and on their own. John and Fannie moved to Elkhart and bought a house.
Cliff was in the Army in World War II, and when he got home he married Bobbie Faye Denman of Neches. I don't know exactly when but Cliff went to Houston and stayed with his sister Minnie Lee Walling Burke and attended Barber School. He had owned and operated a barber shop for 45 years. He was a Baptist.
Cliff and Bobbie bought or built a house across the street from his parents. I'm not sure John (his dad) was alive then, He died in Dec. 1946.
They lived in the home until his death and Bobbie still lives in their home.
He is survived by wife Bobbie Denman Walling; three children, Beverly Ann Troutman and husband Harold of Elkhart, John D. Walling and wife Lisa of Palestine, David C. Walling and wife Patti of Palestine.
eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Johnny Burke, Horace Burke, Jerry Walling, Chris Walling, Brian Blackstock, Robert "Bud" Gardner, K.W. Bell and Mike Gilley.
Hononary pallbearers were Leland Bratz, Billy Joe Warren, Thomas Vaughn and Bennie Joe McInnis. ~All Barbers~
