Rev. William Clayton Webb, Jr. a 60-year member of the Texas Annual Conference, passed away January 19, 2007.

Rev. Webb was born on March 11, 1923 to William Clayton and Helen Huffstutler Webb.

He was a native of Houston, Texas, and grew up in the Heights. He graduated from Reagan High School and attended both Sam Houston State and the University of Houston. He received his seminary education at Southern Methodist University, Perkins School of Theology in Dallas in 1951. He retired from the active ministry in 1986. In retirement, Rev. Webb has continued active pastoral duties in the community of Montgomery and as part- time pastor at the Lake 177 Estates Community Church. He and his wife, Annie Mae were active members of the First United Methodist Church in Montgomery.

Rev. Webb served in the United States Marine Corp in World War II as a combat fighter pilot in the Pacific theater.

He entered the ministry in 1949, serving churches across the Texas Annual Conference at Palestine, Buffalo, East Bernard and Dayton and several different churches in the Houston area. He was active in Boy Scout work, having been continuously registered as an active Scouter for almost 60 years. He served as training coordinator for both the Sam Houston Area Council and (Longview) Area Council. Rev. Webb was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award and the Texas Annual Conference Flame award for his work in Scouting.

Rev. Webb was active as a pilot for the Civil Air Patrol in Longview and Dayton, attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was also active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He served as recruiting coordinator for the Coast Guard Academy in the Southern Coast Guard District, visiting high schools in the Gulf Coast area on behalf of the Coast Guard Academy.

Rev. Webb was active in the Masonic Lodge #25 in Montgomery and in the Knights Templar. He was the past State Chaplain for the Knights Templar. He had also been a long time volunteer firefighter and emergency services worker in the communities he served as pastor. He loved hunting, sailing, riding motorcycles, and flying.

Rev. Webb is survived by his wife; Annie May (Amy) Webb of Montgomery, Texas; daughter, Dell Gossett of Seattle, Washington; three sons, Rev. Bill Webb of Marshall, Texas, Rev. Bob Webb of Houston, and Morty Webb of Sedro Wooley, Washington; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and host of friends.
